Introducing Sensory Clubercise to Enhance Residents’ Wellbeing

Here at Beechgrove care home, we have taken innovative steps to enhance the wellbeing of our residents by introducing Sensory Clubercise, a dynamic activity that combines exercise with sensory stimulation. This initiative has been met with enthusiasm and participation from residents of all abilities, creating an inclusive and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Clubercise, a newer addition to the home's activities, has quickly become a favourite among residents. With its lively atmosphere, featuring pulsating music, colourful lights, bubbles and large glow sticks, the activity provides a multi-sensory experience that ignites joy and excitement. Residents eagerly participate in dance routines and movements, accompanied by supportive staff members who join in the fun.

Recognising the importance of inclusivity, Beechgrove Care Home initiated discussions with residents to explore ways to incorporate sensory elements into exercise activities. This proactive approach led to the development of Sensory Clubercise, ensuring that every resident, regardless of their physical abilities, can actively engage and benefit from the activity.

One of the remarkable outcomes of Sensory Clubercise is its ability to encourage participation from residents who may have previously hesitated to join traditional chair exercise activities. Through the immersive sensory experience, residents who may have shied away from physical exertion found themselves fully engaged and eager to participate, fostering a sense of connection among all.

One of our long-term residents at Beechgrove Care Home in Lanarkshire, shared her enthusiasm for the new activity, "I never imagined exercising could be this much fun! The music and lights make me feel energised and I love dancing with everyone."

Kirsty, the activities coordinator at Beechgrove Care Home, expressed delight at the positive impact of Sensory Clubercise on residents' wellbeing. "We're thrilled to see how much joy and enthusiasm this activity has brought to our residents. It's heartwarming to witness everyone, regardless of their abilities, coming together to enjoy the experience. Sensory Clubercise is more than just exercise; it's a celebration of life and community."

As we continue to prioritise the holistic wellbeing of our residents, initiatives like Sensory Clubercise serve as shining examples of creativity and dedication in providing meaningful activities that promote physical health, social interaction and emotional fulfilment.
