A Fun-Filled February

Resident Holding Large Iguana

A few of our residents enjoyed an early Valentine’s Roast lunch on Sunday with their loved ones on Sunday 12th February.

Residents and their partners enjoyed a romantic meal and said it was lovely to have a meal together as they hadn't done it for a while. The Sunday lunch consisted of roast beef and all the trimmings.

For Valentine’s Day, we all had a lovely lunch followed by a Disco in the afternoon. Everyone had a great time with lots of dancing and singing to songs with the theme of 'love'. A big thank you to Ian for providing great music as always.

Later in the week, our residents enjoyed an afternoon of holding and cuddling a variety of exotic and domestic animals with a visit from Amy's Animals. We had cute rabbits and guinea pigs and for the really brave we had snakes, a tortoise and a really unusual frog. We can’t wait for our next visit.

At Beechgrove, we believe in providing a varied activities programme where our residents can regularly enjoy their hobbies as well as try new things which enables them to gain new skills and interests. Pet therapy is one of the exciting activities we regularly organise at the home which always goes down well with residents.

Providing residents with the opportunity to pet and hold a variety of animals can reduce stress levels and depression while enhancing dopamine and serotonin levels for improved well-being. When residents are introduced to the cuddlier animals, they can associate this with a time in their life when they owned a pet, stimulating positive emotions and allowing residents to focus on its care and handling. For the more exotic animals, residents can face their fears and feel a sense of achievement as well as learn facts about the animal.
